Nick was born and raised in South Dakota and graduated from the University of South Dakota with a double major in Criminal Justice and History. In 2010 he received his J.D. from the University of South Dakota School of Law. While in law school Nick began to emphasize and focus on his litigation and alternative dispute resolution skills and competed in competitions throughout the country. Ultimately, he became the President of the Trial Team and Vice President of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Board. After graduating law school, Nick practiced in the areas of insurance defense and criminal defense in South Dakota, before coming to Iowa to practice law in 2012.
In April of 2022, Nick joined the firm as a partner, and Stuyvesant, Strong, Krapfl, and Carda was created. Nick is a general practice attorney that focuses on the areas of OWI’s, Criminal Defense, Civil Litigation, Landlord/Tenant, Family Law, Personal Injury, and Estate Planning.
Throughout his career, Nick has represented clients in a wide array of legal matters. He has appealed and tried both civil and criminal cases to juries, dealt with a multitude of different administrative matters, drafted a Bill that passed the Iowa House of Representatives, and co-presented a class to educate other lawyers on gun rights and permits. He has the same certification that Iowa law enforcement receives for Field Sobriety Testing during OWI investigations.
In one appellate case, the Iowa Court of Appeals found his arguments to be persuasive and held that nearly $400,000 should be returned to an estate by a son that exerted undue influence on his mother during her lifetime. He has also fought for his client’s rights at the trial court level and on appeal regarding such areas as 4th Amendment search and seizure law and the measure of damages regarding inverse condemnation claims against governmental entities.
Nick lives in Indianola with his wife Megan, and their three children. Outside of the office, Nick enjoys staying active with pick up sports and running and supporting the Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
