Bob was born in Chicago and grew up in West Peoria, Illinois. After high school he came to Iowa to attend college, graduating from Drake University in 1969. Shortly after graduation he was drafted and served in the United States Army in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Iowa to go to Law School. He graduated from Drake Law School in 1974.
For the first 6 months of his career out of law school, he practiced in Illinois, but then came back a final time to Iowa and opened the law firm of Schooler and Stuyvesant on April 1, 1975. The firm would ultimately become the long-time firm of Stuyvesant and Benton and around 1997 moved to the same location that is still the site of our Carlisle Office today. For nearly 50 years Bob has been a fixture in Carlisle and has represented clients in Carlisle, Warren County, and all throughout Iowa.
One such case included his representation in the case of In re: Marriage of Gallagher (539 N.W.2d 479 (Iowa 1995)) which established the principle of equitable parenting principles in Iowa law. Bob is a general practice attorney that has a varied practice including, but not limited to, Municipal Law, Estate Planning, Trusts and Wills, Civil Litigation, Personal Injury, Corporate, and Family Law.
Bob lives in Carlisle with his wife Karen. He is a supporter of Drake University Athletics, the Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears. He also loves to travel and whenever possible loves to spend time with his family including his wife; 2 children, Jason and Jennifer; and his 5 grandchildren.
